Newly promoted Ghana Premier League side, Port City Football Club, continued their strong start to life in the GPL with a convincing 2-0 away victory over Gold Stars at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani.
Goals from Emmanuel Intori and Robert Gyamfi all in the first half were enough to give the Adonteng Royals a historic victory in their first away match.
Though Port City were still missing in the early stages of the game, they reorganized and punished the hosts with the first goal in the 10th minute when Emmanuel Intori chipped a teasing ball over goalie Emmanuel Kobi.
Gold Stars could not stand the setback and were punished with the second goal minutes after.
In the 20th minute, Robert Gyamfi made no mistake with a simple finish outside the penalty box; Owusu Ansah served him a decent cross.
The early double strike gave Port City confidence as they controlled much of the first half and forced Gold Stars to defend under sustained pressure.
Intori came close to adding another goal before the interval after receiving a long ball from the Port City defense.
The forward controlled the pass, carried the ball into the Gold Stars’ penalty area, and created an opportunity for himself, but his final effort went over the crossbar.
The Miners pushed further forward and looked more threatening in attack, hoping to reproduce the fighting spirit that helped them secure a positive result against Dreams FC in their previous league outing.
Port City, however, remained organized at the back and dealt with Gold Stars’ attempts to get back into the contest.
The Adonteng Royals, meanwhile, will look to maintain their strong momentum when they travel to face defending champions Medeama SC in their outstanding league fixture on Wednesday.
