Hearts of Oak new signing John Antwi has downplayed individual performances to credit his teammates, marking his debut with a brace to secure a resounding 4-0 win over Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The experience forward wasted no time to announce his presence, netting twice in the first half to register his brace on Matchday 1 at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Ivorian forward Mamadou Kader Kourouma and center-back Ali Mohammed both scored in the dying stages to complete the Phobians demolition exercise.

Antwi, who shared his excitement after his blistering start, says the dominant performance was entirely down to “a team effort.”

Speaking after the game, the veteran forward lauded his colleagues, who said they played an integral part in his feat.

“I think it was a team effort, so I say congratulations to my teammates and technical team. This game is over, and we will put it behind us. We will go into the game with full preparation ahead of our next game,” Antwi said.

“Personally it was good for me and scoring a brace, but then it wasn’t an individual performance. I thank my colleagues because they helped me on the field, and I’m elated for that.” He added.

Antwi joined the Phobians on a two-year deal prior to the start of the 2026/27 season from Dreams FC.

Hearts of Oak will make a trip to Dun’s Park to face Bibiani Gold Stars on Matchday 2 on Sunday.
