GPL MD8: Port City Stun Karela United 2-1 Away to Return to Winning Ways

Port City FC produced one of the weekend’s standout results, beating Karela United 2-1 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday.

The Adonteng Royals failed to pick all three points from their last meeting against Dreams FC, as the visitors left it late to snatch a point at the Daasebre Boamah Darko II Park on Match Day 7.

Prior to this game, Port City was poised to return to winning ways, having lost 1-0 to Hearts of Oak before the 1-1 stalemate with Dreams.

Karela United gave the visitors a run for their money in the early stages of the game; they kept piling the press on Port City, but the newly promoted side kept their calm and denied the hosts from scoring.

Port City gradually found their rhythm and came close on two consecutive occasions. Emmanuel Intori’s first effort was too feble to pose any danger before hiring another from close range despite being open to release a pass inside the penalty box as the first half ended goalless.

Back from recess, Owusu Ansah opened the scoring in the 77th minute before Iddi Mahfuz equalized for Karela three minutes from time.

The forward struck again in the 89th minute to complete his brace and secure Port City’s second away win of the season.

The result lifted the newly promoted side to third place, while Karela suffered consecutive defeats.
