Football administrator and politician Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has claimed that many national team call-ups are driven by FA influence rather than on-field performance.
The veteran administrator’s scathing assessment exposes the alleged behind-the-scenes politics crippling team selection.
Speaking on the underlying issues facing the squad, the outspoken administrator suggested that merit has taken a backseat to administrative favoritism.
He stated that the problem comes from GFA top dogs because of their interest in some of the players.
“Many of these players get called up simply because of their association with influential people within the FA setup. GFA officials have an interest in some of these players, and that is where the problem comes from,” he told JoySports.
The Black Stars’ recent decline in performance has raised a lot of concerns about the future of the team and player recruitment.
Ghana suffered a round 32 exit from the World Cup and has already lost two games in their first round of the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifying, having lost 2-0 and 4-2 to Ivory Coast and the Gambia, respectively.
However, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Carlos Queiroz have mutually agreed to terminate the contract of the ex-Portuguese International on Thursday morning.
