Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens, received a timely diplomatic boost ahead of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifier after Ghana’s Head of Mission to Mauritius, H.E. Ms. Nicola Yemoh, paid a morale-boosting visit to the team’s camp.
The visit comes as the Black Queens fine-tune their preparations for the first leg of their second-round qualifier against Mauritius, scheduled for Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex.
The Black Queens arrived in Mauritius on Monday, October 5, with 10 players arriving by midday of the opening day of camp.
However, Kim Lars Bjorkegren enjoyed a full house on Wednesday, October 7, after opening camp on Monday ahead of the first leg of the game.
Mauritius reached the second round of the qualifiers following their double-header win over Djobouti in the previous round. They claimed a 2-1 victory in the first leg before winning the second leg 1-0.
Ghana, on the other hand, was handed a bye in the first round due to their ranking, setting up a clash with Mauritius.
Since the introduction of women’s football at the Olympics, Ghana has failed to qualify for all eight editions, as Bjorkegren targets an Olympic appearance.
The return fixture is scheduled for Tuesday, October 13 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
