Debutants Port City secured their first victory of the 2026/27 season with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Berekum Chelsea on match day 3 at the Daasebre Boamah Darko II Park on Sunday.

It was the hosts’ single home game, having drawn in a 1-1 stalemate against Ashgold 04 on opening day before having their second-week fixture against Medeama SC postponed.

Forward Francis Gyetuah scored in both halves, with Haruna Jamal netting the only goal for the visitors.

Port City started brightly, dictating the pace of the game in the early minutes before breaking the deadlock in the 7th minute.

Gyetauh dummied his marker before slotting home a low shot past goalie Alfred Owusu to give Port City an early advantage.

The visitors gradually found their rhythm and threw everything to draw level, but the defensive shape led by skipper Hamza Zakaria proved to be a tough nut to crack.

The latter stages of the first half were a ding-dong affair, but it was Port City who went into the break beaming with smiles and confidence.

Back from recess, Berekum Chelsea stepped up and created a few incursions upfront.

In the 60th minute, Haruna Jamal’s deflected strike went past goalie Abdul Karim after Seidu Abubakar placed a perfect pass.

The hosts deservedly restored their lead in the 70th minute when Gyetuah tapped in from Emmanuel Intori’s cross.

Port City will travel to Bibiani to face Gold Stars on match day 4 before making a trip to Tarkwa, three days after, to lock horns with Medeama SC in an outstanding game.
