English Championship side Sheffield United have filled the 25-man squad by completing the signing of Ghanaian international striker Jordan Ayew, whose last game was in the World Cup.

The formalities have been completed on Jordan Ayew signing a one-year deal, and he links up Chris Wilder’s squad immediately.

The 34-year-old was a free agent after his contract at Leicester City expired at the end of last season.

He started all four games as Ghana reached the knockout stages of the World Cup this summer, including featuring in the 0-0 draw with England.

Boss Wilder commented, “I spoke last week about being close to getting someone in from the free agent market, and things did move quite quickly, so I am really pleased to have Jordan with us.

“We’re talking about someone here with bags of experience from right at the top level of the game. Only a few months ago he was captaining Ghana in the World Cup, so he’s someone with real pedigree.

“He did well at this level last season in difficult circumstances and has played all across the front positions during his career, which gives us plenty of options.

Jordan added, “I’m really, really pleased to be here. The manager and the club made a great effort to get me here as quickly as possible, so I want to thank everyone for their support and for them to bring me over to the Blades,, and hopefully we’ll have a great season.

Jordan Ayew has been named in the provisional squad by Coach Carlos Queiroz for Ghana’s AFCON qualifier against Ivory Coast later this month.

“It happened really, really quick because I was in Ghana and the manager called me last week.
